252 Original GW Praetorian models

In answer to a question I was asked, there are 252 metal GW Praetorians in my army.

I considered trying to fit in the Mordians and Vic Lamb Highlanders but, that's a no go.

Basically enough for 3 full platoons (Command Squad + 5 Squads) and an Armoured Fist Platoon (Command + 4 mounted Squads).  Some models left over for Heavy Weapon Squads and one 3 melta Special Weapon Squad.

Company Command Squad with the metal Bone 'Ead as Nork Deddog.  I'm considering gluing on the Commissar Cap and Loudspeaker from the plastic set to this model.   Curious Constructs Tank Commander is sitting proudly in the turret.

Showing my age again.  I can remember when I thought that was a nice colour scheme.  Someone has a date with a Dettol bath before becoming the Army's Enginseer.

  2nd Platoon

  3rd Platoon

...led by the Bombardier.

Armoured Fist Platoon

My original Rough Riders converted from Rogue Trader models.

Full squad of 10 Vic Lamb miniatures.

I used to use the bods above as Storm Troopers but I will probably re-cat them as Veterans

I'm an Iron Maiden fan don't you know.  This banner is NOT hand painted!

Production Line Day 11..and BOOM!, they're done.

As per the title, all 39 complete.

Time to add them to the spares from previous projects and see how they fit in with the rest of the army.

What else needs to be done?

1. Finish Tank Commanders
2. Finish Scions
3. Build Hydra
4. Await delivery of Pask.
5. Finish Rough Riders
6. Finish Motor Bike Squadron
7. Finish off Highlander's kilts
8. Fight the urge to buy the Hammer of Cadia box!

plus so much more!

Production Line Day 10

Staying motivated and with the help of what looks like a bunch of Dog Toffee weather today, I should have these fellas finished.

Weapon casings, uniform eagles and buttons, chinstraps and helmets and that's another 39 Guardsmen ready to muster.

Now should I pick up any more, I may do some Rifles green troops.  Keep Heavy Weapons out and each Platoon can have a squad as an attachment.  Something along the lines of how the 95th and 60th were used in the Peninsula.

Or could that be how I paint up my Veterans.....?

That's how new projects are born.....

Production Line Day 9

Slow progress yesterday but as a plus point I have now seen the latest Muppets movie.  Some weapons basecoated and those will be finished off over the course of today.  Time to paint cuffs and scabbards as well.

Monday 21 April 2014

Production Line Day 8

All models have painted skin now.  Time to start on the weapons.

I could have got more done yesterday but the Bullgryns proved a bit of a distraction.

Sunday 20 April 2014

Production Line Day 7 plus Bullgryns!

These are progressing faster than I thought they would.

Jackets, trousers, epaulettes are all done.

Skin on the first two rows is complete.

Time to start cracking on with the weapons and fiddly stuff.

Of course, in between the main event I do divert off to do other things.  The Bullgryns were going to be built after the painting was done but after getting my hands on the box yesterday I couldn't wait to build up the Banegryns.

Good news for those with the magnetising skills, there are separate arms for Ripper Guns, Power Mauls and Grenade Launchers.  Power Buckler and Slabshield arms are shared but you can magnetize those for easy swapping as well.

Slow progress on the Scions but the Tempestor Prime is almost complete.

Rough Riders have come along as well.

One test colour scheme for the bikers is almost done.

The bike colour is based on an old Action Man German motorcycle and side car colour scheme.  The saddle on that one was maroon as well.

 One Tank Commander complete.

Curious Constructs Lascannon battery complete.

Production Line Day 6

Painting is progressing well.  Off to pick up the Bullgryns today so there will be other distractions.

Thursday 17 April 2014

Production LIne Day 4

Outings, dog walking and the year's first BBQ failed to halt some painting yesterday.  More Redcoats completed and now I'm at the stage that I quite enjoy as I can mix and match what I am painting.  Bored with jackets, I can do some epaulettes, then back to jackets, some faces, epaulettes.  We'll see how it goes for the rest of the week.

Next week will be a challenge as the family all go back to work/ school and that is when I start getting out and about around the Moors so painting remains a second priority.

Wednesday 16 April 2014

Production Line day 3

Zero progress yesterday.

If good weather had affected all progress and effort, we'd still be looking round our caves thinking "It'll never get better than this' and wondering why the square wheel was so crap.

Production Line Day 2

I managed to get a a fair bit done in between family outings and dog walking.

Unlikley to get much done today as its a theme park day and family dining out tonight.

Prioritise The Production Line Day 1

Well, here is every thing that has been built and is in need of painting.

Not built is the Hydra, the Knight and the incoming Bullgryns! They probably won't be either until this little lot is done.

Luckily, I'm now into my leave period so we'll see how things go.

In total, 5 motorcyclists, 5 Rough Riders, 3 Tank Commanders, 15 Storm Troopers and 39 Guardsmen.

Priority goes to the Guardsmen as they were the original target before GW and others brought out other shinies to distract me.

Oh and the weather's nice and the family ALWAYS get priority so unlike the Christmas wet season, fresh air is competition.

Then you find out the BBC have just put The Day Of The Triffids on On Demand.  Now there is a classic budget light Beeb sci-fi production that I haven't seen since the 1981 broadcast.  I still remember the farm implement impaled corpse with the Triffid feeding off it though!
