Calgar Redux

Along with painting up the new Primaris, I have decided that Calgar and his retinue deserve an updated paintjob.  Courtesy of Dettol, they are now down to the bare metal and will be painted up and placed on some of the new plastic bases.

With the Sledgehammer battery finished, I've switched target to work on another project steam.  This time, it's off to the UM box to make a start on the figures I've picked up from the Dark Imperium and First Strike starter sets.

Considering the cost of the new Primaris range in their squad box variants, I can't see this army growing much bigger than it currently is.  If I feel an urgent need for retail therapy, I might consider the new grav tank but we'll see how that goes.

Sledgehammer Battery Complete

In between visits to St Michael's Mount and Dartmouth (I do like some Heritage), I've managed to get the battery complete.

I may even check out the Forge World Siege Army list for the Imperial Guard as these beauties along with some of the Curious Constructs heavy weapons should be good for 'counts as'.

Next on the slate:

1. Guilliman on the back shelf there.

2. Some of the new Primaris.

3. As soon as I place a Forge World order for Night Lords Mk IV shoulder pads, kit bashing some plastic Mk IVs with Primaris Reiver skull helmets for Heresy era Night Lords.

Rain Encourages Progress.

Now that I'm back from Barcelona after a 20th Anniversary break (I was not there at the time of the murders) a bit of rain has encouraged to crack on with some painting.

The main drive is to complete the crews and protection force for the Sledgehammer battery.  Time is running out as I will soon be on a six month enforced 'normal life break'whole and I really want to try a whole Army photo shoot before I go.

Holiday Progress.

Thanks to being able to grab some quality time off, I've made a start to the Sledgehammer battery.

All three BFGs, the crews and the two-squad (so far) protection force have been built and undercoated.

I've finally arrived home for the first time in a couple of weeks, delayed by the number of cheeky holiday makers using my south coast route, so I was able to get to grips with the tracks and shields.

 

I've conducted most of the head swaps for the crews as well.

 

Now, it only depends on the South West achieving some form of dry spell so I can start the spraying.

 

It's Just So Cute

Opinion of GW will always be, shall we say, divided.

The new starter sets however do have things going for them.

Number 1, the box makes simple terrain.  I love the cargo containers.  They'll fit in with my old 2nd Ed terrain next time I set them up.

The snap fit figures are nice as well.  I know the later box sets may have more options but I have enough there to add to the Dark Imperium box set to have a decent Primaris set up.

Now, do I consider picking up another four mats to have enough for a 6ft x 4ft table?  Has to be cheaper and easier to store than a Sector Imperialis.
