Praetorian Imperial Guard Muster Pt XVII: Last Chancers

Utilising convicts to find a team to conduct an as yet unknown mission, Schaeffer has currently selected a team of misfits, thieves and murderers.  Inspired by the 3rd Ed metal Last Chancers squad, collected together for the first time are my team based on Wargames Atlantic Cannon Fodder models with additional parts from the bits box.

Animal has a GW meltagun and a chainsword in scabbard from the Les Grognards kit.

Hero has a Cadian cap, a Mk III Space Marine sword and a GW laspistol.

Shiv has a GW laspistol and an Reiver combat knife.

Rocket Girl has a Stargrave missile launcher.

Fingers has a Stargrave ammo case to support Rocket Girl.

Ox utlises a new Imperial Guard Heavy Bolter with a Cannon Fodder backpack. The Bolter has been converted with two of the ammunition canisters that are part of the Cannon Fodder sprues.

Scope takes out targets with a Victoria Miniatures sniper rifle.

Warrior Woman has managed to keep her former helmet and managed to avoid a shaved head. She has, however, lost access to her mini skirt and crop top from the orignal metal model.

Gears carries a GW Bolt Pistol and a spanner! Again this is from a Stargrave kit.

Brains has a datapad arm from Stargrave and is carrying a Wargames Atlantic Einherjar comms pack.

Is he Kage or just a trusted Lieutenant or Sergeant to watch Scaheffer's back.  I haven'y decided yet but even Lee Marvin needed Richard Jaeckel's MP in The Dirty Dozen.

Do you know what?  After all that, I still haven't made a Demolition Man!  Back to the bits box. One of the jump suit rabble at the back is about to receive an upgrade.

Praetorian Imperial Guard Muster Pt XVI: Nobles, Ghosts and Convicts

Who has the Praetorian's' back?

Rogue Traders, Imperial Navy Breachers, Gaunt's Ghosts, the Ventrillian Nobles and a big convict gang.

I left out Rein and Raus from the previous muster but here they are in all of their Blackstone glory.

Rogue Trader Vane and her Startstriders.

A squad of Breachers likely providing support and Bodyguards for the pilot, Varrus.

The Ventrillian Nobles (version 2. The original ones are now with an eBay buyer in California)

I may be looking at adding another two squads to this army and providing them with some armoured support.  This may involve a repaint of some of the Praetorian Chimeras and/ or Leman Russ tanks. Maybe even a Rogal Dorn if I come across a cheap resale.

Courtesy of Wargames Atlantic, I now have some Ogryns resplendent in fancy clothes provided by their Ventrillian overseers.

Here is an army that needs a plastic release when it comes to basic troops. AS covered earlier, the squads feature masking tape cloaks as inspired by one of Peachy's vids

Looking much better but definitely more expensive is this squad of Victoria Miniatures Border Rangers.

Left over from my early 40K days is the Arbites squad leader.  Why is he here? Probably assisting Schaeffer with gathering more recruits

Scaheffer is leading his Last Chancers select team but has another mob to winnow through to maybe find that key maniac who will ensure mission success.

Praetorian Imperial Guard Muster Pt XV: Muster Complete, Back To The KR Multicase Storage

I love Kaider Rushforth cases.

Everything that has featured over the last two weeks worth of posts fits nicely into the cases pictured here.

One of the benefits of metal Praetorian models is their size compared to a lot of current plastic GW models.  The aluminium case shown bottom right contains most of the Redcoat models through the use of KR foam trays that carry 72 models. In effect, I can fit seven Infantry squads into each layer.

It's a swine to lift though!

The following shows what is left on my Praetorian pile of shame.  There is a big surplus of heavy weapons but not enough lasrifle models for a full 55 strong platoon.  I may do some playing around and add heavy weapons to my Armoured Fist Platoon and some Command Squads.  That should free up 10 - 16 standard troopers.

Praetorian Imperial Guard Muster Pt XIV: Abhumans

Concluding the main army feature is the Abhuman contingent. There will be two more oosts featuring other elements supporting the Praetorians then it's back to the work in progress posts.

The Imperium is willing to turn a blind eye to the presence of non-baseline humans if they can serve a purpose.

The Ratlings have been a feature of the Imperial Guard since the Rogue Trader era although I have never owned any of the original models.

I still have five of the 2nd Ed models however and in some ways, they have been in my Guard army longer than the Praetorians. These models originally featured in my first Imperial army, the Mordian Iron Guard.

Models have come and gone and with the exception of the Bone'Ead in the Command HQ, the only Ogryns remaining attached to the Praetorians are these GW models converted with the sadly no longer available Ogre Pith Helmets from Curious Constructs.

Featured recently are the new version Ratlings from GW and below them, the extremely superior models from Victoria Miniatures.

Wargames Atlantic now have a sci fi style Ogre known as The Vain for their Death Fields range and these will feature in a later post as they are not part of the Praetorian army.

Praetorian Imperial Guard Muster Pt XIII: Armoured Punch

Not every tank can be a Superheavy.

Providing the majority of support to the Infantry are the six Leman Russ and two Rogal Dorn newcomers (although apparently they've always been in the Guard!) battle tanks.

The two standard Russ tannls lead the way with one upgraded with an enhanced comms suite.

There is spare transport capacity with four additional Chimeras available although some of these could find themselves receiving a repaint and being transferred to the Ventrillian Nobles.
