TTFN

Thanks to all those who have checked in over the last couple of years.  3400 views as of this morning.

Following the healing of my fracture and medical upgrade on Friday, the wheels have turned quite fast and yesterday I was informed that my Afghan flight was booked for midnight tonight.

As a result, updates will be negligible however I will view everyone else's blogs as time allows.

The hobby stockpile has already started though!  My order for Dystopian Legions Col MacDonald has just been sent in.  If you haven't twigged despite several of my previous posts...I LOVE THIS MODEL!

Dystopian Legions Painted Previews

Apparently this is the upcoming box art for some of the vehicles.  These are from the Ilnanonefasto Modelling Facebook Page.

The Britannian APC is known as The Tea Caddy and there seems to be a few variations judging by the photos.

And check out the Prussian Faust.  Nice size compared to the GW figure next to it.

The figures may be larger than the "norm" but the vehicles are looking good.

Obsession!!

Am I in need of help? *

More Praetorians bought equals bigger backlog!

Current production line.

New arrivals plus Dystopian Legions plus Ultramarine Assault Company Command Squad (no game rules but I was bored) plus two new Night Lords utilising Raptor parts.

*  Question is rhetorical.  Any attempts to cure me of my madness WILL be treated with a form of  haughty derision that Sheldon Cooper can only dream of delivering.

A possible flaw in the plan!!!

I tentatively picked up the KOB Riflemen box set before committing to the Dystopian Legions Starter set.  The models themselves are decent sculpts but by crikey, these fellows are tall compared to the GW Praetorians or even Vic Lamb's sci-fi Victorians!

Purists may object to such a variation in scale.  I can still see myself picking up the range however. After all, I'm 5ft 7in and there are people at work who tower over me.  In addition Col MacDonald is, for me, an absolute must buy model.  The armoured vehicles should be able to fit in as well.  In their most recent update from the Reading wargames show, Spartan apparently previewed Britannian artillery but there are no photos as of yet.

Dystopian Legions Updates

This will take up some of my money soon....and the fella in the photo below had better be Britannian!  A general in a motorised bathchair.  I just know that underneath that blanket will be a bandaged gout ridden foot from too much port and jellied pig's trotters!

The link aobve has been updated with int briefs for FSA and Prussia.

Panic over.  Just found a link for him...

Highlanders getting Heavy

Due to a fracture obtained during pre-Deployment training my departure has been delayed for around a month. As a result I have had time to paint up up some more Highlanders and have a reason to test the camera on my new tablet. Resolution not fantastic but I'll do some more playing around. Gunners by Victoria Lamb Miniatures, Gatling Gun by Curious Constructs. Wonder if these models will transfer across to Dystopian Legions?

Also due is the Praetorian Land Rover WMIK I've knocked up using an Airfix kit!  I'll probably wait until that has been painted.

Well, received an e-mail from Spartan Games  today.  I need to see more pictures of the individual models but the contents of the starter set appear tempting (Kingdom of Britannia of course).

See links to store pages.

More Work in Progress

Latest order in from Oz.  HMRC stung me for an extra £19.00.  The taxman will have his blood.

First photo is of Highlanders with one of Col Gravis' Gatling Guns.  I can see Vic Lamb's and Curious Constructs' products complimenting each other quite well.

Captain Caine ready to go.  I'll possibly paint him up as a Mordian...not decided yet.

Guilty of sacrilege here.  Caine bisected and given some kilted legs to fit in with my Highlanders.

Victoria Lamb's Not-Mordians.  I may paint these up in a grey colour scheme to make them stand out as veterans.  I've stolen this inspiration from the currently Ebook only "Iron Guard" from the Black Library.

Highly unlikely that these will get painted for a while as I commence my pre-Deployment training soon.  Once next week is out of the way, there may not be any updates until next April!

Move over GW and looking out for mis-spelt Praetorians on eBay.  Check out some more of the previews via the link below.

This appears to have been updated twice today.  Love the closer look at the upcoming Britannians.  Shame I will not be able get my hands on these until April-May.
Some more photos of this range from Gen Con 2012.

I'm loving the look of those APCs and check out the not-Basilisk at the back.  Lord Flasheart (the pilot) will be my new Fleet Officer!

I haven't posted for a while due to being extremely busy.  A £120 order has just gone to Victoria Lamb for some more Praetorian/ Mordian/ Victorian sci-fi inspired goodies.  So I needed to see this like I needed a hole in the head.  Looks like my daughter goes barefoot to school with no coat this upcoming school year!!

Only joking.  Like Commissar Dave I have an upcoming jaunt to somewhere hilly and rocky so should have plenty of money next May when I come back.

Mordian Reinforcements

I enjoyed using the Cadian plastics to expand both the Praetorians and Mordians.  Again the Cadian Flak armour can easily be classed as carapace next to the metal models.  The addition of a peaked cap in the command squad set was a god send.

Mordian Master of Ordnance

Shown below is the first half of the Mordian Stormtrooper squad.  Finally the Mordians have plasma weapons!  The backpacks are from the Robogear trooper figures.

The Iron Guard Rise

From the depths of my cupboard come my original Imperial Guard army.  Although I had a command  and infantry from each of the metal 2nd Edition IG releases it was the Mordians that I decided on for my main army.  They were the ones that had grabbed my attention when previewed in a Studio cabinet at Games Day hence The Boys in Blue came to be.  Back in those days (before fatherhood and responsibility) I was a regular gamer and these fellas were unbeaten.  Somewhere along the line from there I have lost that skill!!!

The original Command Squads were painted with a white colour scheme to make them stand out.  If you're going to go for dress uniforms, camoflage is not part of your tactical consideration.

I use this squad as one of my Armoured Fists.

Of the variations of Ratling, my favourites are still the 2nd Edition models.  I think they may have been inspired by the 95th Rifles uniforms plus the Sharpe ITV series had started airing in 1993.

The Lascannon.  The heavy weapon of choice for the squad box set.

With the current points, I now muster approx 1500 points of Iron Guard, slighly less than the 4500 odd of Praetorians.

Still to come next time I get a chance are the Stormtrooper conversions from Cadian parts, my new Command HQ and other additions such as the Master of Ordnance.

More Work In Progress

It has been a while since I've had time to paint let alone post.  Pictured are some of the fantastic Rough Riders from Victoria lamb.  On DakkaDakka tody she has hinted that there maybe some Iron Guard parts coming out soon.  This makes me smile.  The Mordians were my first rea Imperial Guard army and I have been toying with the idea of introducing them to this blog.  The world needs to meet the Leman Russ christened "Farseer Killer"!

Better photos will follow as time allows.

Work In Progress

Base layers on for the Highland Guard.  Tidying up to do and then the whole squad should be ready to go.

I picked up the painting guide for tartan from the following link:

http://www.angelfire.com/tx/ToySoldier/tartan.htm#42

My troops are painted with the Douglas pattern (the clan my family are an offshoot from).

New Projects

Having received my latest items from Victoria Lamb (ordered 1 Jan 12, arrived 12 Jan 12..not bad from Oz) I have plunged on with my latest Praetorian offerings.

First off, new Rough Riders.  I'll have to see what they look like painted but I have no real doubts that I will have another bunch of these.

Also ready to go are more Highland Infantry.  If I ever get around to converting a kilted Harker, this will be the squad he fits in with.

Finally, my first FineCast purchase.  I finally went for the Commissar Lord.  I never bought him in metal because I thought it would be too much pain to remove his head.  Not a problem with this new medium.

Now what to do with the set of Balmoral Cap heads that were included in my order as a freebie!!!

Converted Stonetooth Harker

I might be able to do some more posting now that the pace of work has slowed down somewhat.  I threw this one together using some odds and ends.  Secret Weapon head, plastic scout heavy bolter parts (with green stuff over the arms), a cadian torso and legs.  I may make another version to go with the kilted Praetorians I have just bought using Victoria Lamb's sci-fi Victorians.  As Stonetooth's squad cannot use carapace armour, I don't want to use this model alongside my other Praetorian veteran squads.

As always, comments are welcome..a.part from my poor painting skills because you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
