What's Completed?

So far, so good.

Added to the ranks we have:

A Leman Russ command tank.
One Enginseer.
A minimum size Tunneler Platoon
One further Redcoat squad for a new Platoon.

Plus, I still have a couple of days off remaining.....

A Little Bit of Progress...

Despite being quite busy, I have managed to make some progress over the last 7 days.

Two Redcoat squads are complete. The ones at the front are basic line infantry whilst the squad at the back will join my Armoured Fist squads to bring it up to the full 55 strong Platoon.

Despite the Mantic Kickstarter Tunnelers being 9 - 10 months away, I decided to crack on with the troops for that platoon just to be painting something different.  You can see them below after receiving their Army Painter khaki undercoat and the Mournfang Brown boots.

I Wish Me A Merry Christmas.........

What can you do when work has prevented you from getting home on a regular basis for two plus years and your hobby fund starts to build up through not being spent?

Easy, you jump in with some last minute buying on eBay to pick up another bunch of Praetorians to add to the Leman Russ/ Enginseer combo that were purchased a couple of weeks ago.

This does mean however, that there is a lot of prep work to done including a trip to pick up some Dettol for stripping purposes so it is unlikely that I will be doing my usual production line photos. That said, I do have some pre-prepped models ready to go but they will be done on a squad by squad basis.

Enjoy the holibobs everyone.

Praetorian Tunnelers Trial Colour Scheme

Although there is a wait of at least 12 months, I've painted up a trial figure for the planned Tunneler Platoon.

I've gone for the Humbrol WWII 26 and 83 paints (khaki and the canvas webbing colour respectively) along with GW's Mournfang Brown (boots) and  Castellan Green (helmrt and epaulettes/ uniform trims).

Stormlord Detachment Complete...plus Upcoming Projects

Despite only getting home at weekends, I have managed to finish the three Veteran Squads to go with the Stormlord although some tidying up of uniform trims is required.

As for the future, I have another 55 strong Redcoat platoon to complete. Once those are done, I need to wait for Autumn next year when I should be receiving the Mantic Tunneler battlegroup for a planned 25 man platoon.  What colour scheme to go for?  I'll probably go for either a Boer War inspired scheme or base them on British WWI colouring just for something different.

In addition, there is also the Victoria Lamb designed BFG!!! (Three of them).

I think I'm lining up enough work for my retirement in 7 years time!

Osprey Continue To Promote Wargames

Not content with real life military books, Osprey are continuing their drive into the wargaming realm.

Coming in November is this little pearl for all you who love Victorian sci-fi.  The book is also listed on Amazon.

I'm loving that cover artwork.

Hmmm...Kickstarter Inspiration for New Praetorian Unit.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1744629938/warpath-the-sci-fi-battle-game/posts/1366766

Being a fan of Victorian sci fi and having a lot if spare Praetorians, I'm considering jumping in for three of the tunnelers. Possibly as an alternative Armoured Fist Platoon...with Deep Strike rules.  We'll see, I still have my Stormlord veterans to paint up.

Praetorian Heavy Artillery - Courtesy of Curious Constructs

Greetings.  Fist post again for a while due to my only getting home at weekends.

Now that, by and large, I've finished the most recent Kickstarter products from Col Gravis' Curious Constructs it's time for them to have an airing.

First of all we have the cannon and flak platforms along with some of the earlier multi-barrel launchers. Disclaimer:  the multi-barrel launchers are made from miscasts that Rob sometimes sells at shows. As such they are not indicative of the retail quality of these products.

I've given the KS exclusive Albanus Zinge a pith helmet to act as the Battery Commander.

The cannons.  I wonder if, with computer modelling, it is possible to scale these up and make Earthshaker size platforms?  Still the Reaper Bones KS should scratch any Big Gun itch that I have.

The multi-barrel launchers.  Again, made from miscasts.

The flak cannons.

The Battery musters for a group shot.  These figures are a mixture of the KS resin crew and the previous metal crew made by Curious Constructs.

All in all, the KS was a pleasure to back and resulted in me receiving some fab models that have been fun to work on.

The mat is one of the Mantic Deadzone KS exclusives.  I was lucky enough to pick up a job lot of six, enough for a 6ft x 4ft covering.

Upcoming Work...More Infantry

With the Superheavies out of the way, its back to what makes the Imperial Guard the Imperial Guard.  Loads of infantry.

First up, the three squads of veterans waiting to join the Stormlord plus the Command Squad for...

....another full platoon of redcoats.

Finally, two trays of the odds and sods waiting for inspiration to strike as to what to do with them.

Now I have a Baneblade!

Holiday periods can be dangerous to your bank balance and available shelf space.  After picking up the Stormlord recently, I was tempted by a second hand Baneblade (only £35) but it was lacking a turret hatch.  Being armed with a decent bits box that was no problem.

At present the tank now has a non-glued in place mash up of a spare Rhino cupola with an IG stormbolter.  Throw in a Curious Constructs tank commander and there is no doubt that he wants his Superheavy to go "Over there!"

As for the Stormlord.  The tank now has two butchered Praetorian mortar crew acting as gunners for the stubbers.  The black and grey scheme is the one I am thinking of using for three veteran squads that will form its infantry attachment.  This follows on from my previous musings that the Stormlord would have its own infantry permanently attached rather than be used by all and sundry.  As far as I'm aware there is no laid down precedent for that in the background but does it really matter?
